Square Type NaI(Tl) Scintillator
Engineering Overview

Square Type NaI(Tl) Scintillator

Square Type NaI(Tl) Scintillator is a hermetically encapsulated square or rectangular sodium iodide scintillator designed for detector arrays, side-entry gamma detection and custom industrial radiation instruments. ATR Crystal supplies aluminum or stainless steel housings with K9 glass, quartz or sapphire windows and custom sizes up to 100 x 100 x 400 mm.

Square and Rectangular NaI(Tl) Scintillator for Detector Arrays

Square Type NaI(Tl) Scintillator is a hermetically encapsulated square or cuboid sodium iodide scintillator for gamma-ray detection. It is used when a rectangular active area, close-packed detector layout or side-entry geometry is preferred over a conventional cylindrical NaI(Tl) crystal.

NaI(Tl) is hygroscopic, so the crystal must be sealed in an aluminum or stainless steel housing with an optical window. Square and rectangular forms can support detector arrays, industrial monitoring systems, multi-directional radiation measurement and instruments where the mechanical layout requires a flat or cuboid scintillator.

ATR Crystal supplies square and rectangular NaI(Tl) scintillators with K9 glass, quartz or sapphire windows, custom flanges, mounting features and optional detector integration. The maximum listed crystal size is 100 mm x 100 mm x 400 mm, or about 4 in x 4 in x 16 in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use square NaI(Tl) instead of cylindrical NaI(Tl)?
Square or rectangular NaI(Tl) can fit close-packed detector arrays and flat mechanical layouts better than a cylindrical crystal.
Does square NaI(Tl) need hermetic encapsulation?
Yes. NaI(Tl) is hygroscopic, so square and rectangular crystals must be sealed in suitable housings with optical windows.
What is the largest listed square NaI(Tl) size?
The original product page lists a maximum crystal size of 100 mm x 100 mm x 400 mm, about 4 in x 4 in x 16 in.
What information is needed for a square NaI(Tl) quote?
Please provide crystal dimensions, active face, window position, housing material, energy-resolution target, readout method, quantity and drawing if available.
