Overview

ATR-P200 Plastic Scintillator for Custom Detectors

ATR-P200 is a fast plastic scintillator supplied by ATR Crystal for particle counters, cosmic-ray detectors and custom radiation detection projects. Its reported material properties include a rise time of 0.9 ns, a decay time of 2.4 ns and a broad emission peak region of 395–425 nm.

Send your component drawing, quantity and detector requirements to sales@atrscintillator.com. Plate, panel, bar and block geometries can be reviewed for quotation, with dimensions, surface finish and acceptance requirements agreed for the order.

Features of ATR-P200 Plastic Scintillator

  • Fast scintillation response
Reported 0.9 ns rise time and 2.4 ns decay time support evaluation for fast counting and trigger applications.
  • Blue emission
The reported broad peak region is 395–425 nm. Match the photosensor and optical components to the emission spectrum.
  • Measured attenuation example
    A cosmic-ray test on a 5 × 5 × 80 cm sample produced a fitted attenuation length of 2.44 m.
  • Drawing-based quotation
Submit the finished geometry, surface requirements and quantity for review of custom plastic scintillator components.

Custom ATR-P200 Plates, Panels and Bars

For a custom plate or panel, specify length, width, thickness and tolerances. For a bar or block, include the cross-section, total length and sensor-facing surfaces. Add any holes, recesses or shaped ends to the drawing for feasibility review.

State whether your request is for the scintillator component alone or also requires review of wrapping, light guides, optical coupling or housing. Available dimensions, processing details and assembly scope are confirmed for the quotation.

For cosmic-ray designs, see our plastic scintillator panel guide for muon detection. You can also browse the plastic scintillator product range.

Specifications

ATR-P200 Plastic Scintillator Properties

Reported material values are listed below. Order specifications and inspection requirements are confirmed during quotation.

Property Reported Value Selection Notes
Light output relative to anthracene ≥66% A relative value; compare materials using matched measurement conditions.
Emission peak region 395–425 nm A broad peak region, rather than a single specified peak wavelength.
Rise time 0.9 ns Material timing value; detector electronics also affect the measured response.
Scintillation decay time 2.4 ns Review against the timing requirements of the detector.
Optical attenuation length >2 m A 5 × 5 × 80 cm sample gave a fitted value of 2.44 m in a cosmic-ray test.
Refractive index 1.58 Consider the optical interface and coupling arrangement.
Softening temperature 75–80°C This value is not an operating temperature rating.

The attenuation test describes one sample and test arrangement. Its dimensions do not define a maximum production size, and the fitted result is not a guaranteed value for every component.

ATR-P200 vs. EJ-200: Selection Notes

For an EJ-200 replacement project, compare the required detector response as well as the material data. ATR-P200 has different reported decay and attenuation values from the EJ-200 reference, so suitability should be established for the intended geometry and readout.

Property ATR-P200 EJ-200 Reference
Rise time 0.9 ns 0.9 ns
Decay time 2.4 ns 2.1 ns
Optical attenuation length >2 m reported; 2.44 m fitted sample result 3.8 m

These values come from separate material data and are not a side-by-side test. For sample evaluation, use the intended thickness, wrapping, sensor, coupling method and readout settings to compare light collection, response uniformity and timing.

Applications

Applications of ATR-P200 Fast Plastic Scintillator

  • Charged-particle counters and detector prototypes

  • Cosmic-ray muon panels and coincidence counters

  • Trigger paddles and anticoincidence detector studies

  • Custom radiation monitoring detector development

Choose the material against the required signal level, timing, component length and optical readout. Detector efficiency and timing performance should be evaluated in the intended assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can ATR-P200 replace EJ-200?
ATR-P200 can be evaluated as an alternative where the reported properties meet your requirements. Confirm the detector response with a suitable sample before approving a substitution.

Use the same component geometry, surface finish, wrapping, coupling and readout arrangement when comparing samples. Define the measurements and acceptance limits before the comparison, including any relevant position dependence along the component. A material-property comparison is a starting point; approval of a replacement should refer to the tested configuration and drawing revision.

What are the reported timing values of ATR-P200?
The reported rise time is 0.9 ns and the scintillation decay time is 2.4 ns. The complete detector response also depends on optical collection, the photosensor and electronics.
Can I request custom ATR-P200 dimensions?
Send your drawing, dimensions, surface requirements and quantity. ATR will review the geometry and confirm the available supply specifications during quotation.
Is 2.44 m the maximum available bar length?
No. It is a fitted optical attenuation length from a test on an 80 cm sample. Available component dimensions must be confirmed separately.
How should light collection be specified for an ATR-P200 bar?

Identify whether light is collected from one end or both ends, and mark each sensor interface on the drawing. Specify the coupling-face finish, wrapping boundaries and any light guide. If response along the bar is important, provide the test positions and normalization method rather than assuming a single material attenuation value defines the finished component response.
